THE SPIRIT LIFT is a ghostpunk card game blending deckbuilding rogue-likes with story-driven indie horror. As teenagers from the '90s, players explore an ever-changing retro 3D hotel with the help of a magic elevator.

This is the DEMO version of THE SPIRIT LIFT! You can play this demo for free, and if you donate $3 USD or more you will unlock the soundtrack too! Follow us on itch.io, on Discord or our other socials for the latest news as we finish the game.

ALT TEXT: The game’s shopkeeper, Dorian Graywolf, has yellow glowing eyes holding a fan of navy blue cards under his wolf snout. The cards have golden accents with an eye in the center and arrows facing up and down coming from the middle of the eye. The logo for THE SPIRIT LIFT is to the left of Dorian. It says, THE SPIRIT LIFT in the same yellow glow as Dorian’s eyes with the first I in SPIRIT mimicking an elevator dial with a blue atmospheric outline of the elevator dial with the actual dial behind it.

Navigate 13 floors and open doors to search for cards, gear and gold. But beware of monsters and dangerous events! When you reach the penthouse, you'll have to defeat one of the hotel's charismatic bosses, so take calculated risks or you may not survive.

Your starting team determines your strategy, so choose wisely! Each character has a special gear item and a custom set of starting cards. They’ll also react differently as the story unfolds. Keep playing to learn their relationships with each other and utilize their different strengths.

Familiar deck-building gameplay with a survival horror twist! Use your equipment deck to fight the creatures prowling the hotel. Upgrade cards as you gain experience, balancing your deck by blending four deck focuses any way you prefer.

And if you die, try again! Discover the hotel's true purpose by unlocking lore and content through challenges. Be Kind, Rewind, and Seek the Truth Lost Behind...

Oh, and you can pet our shopkeeper, Dorian. But he won't like it.

This was an amazing demo!

I love deckbuilders, and the fact that you can walk around freely inside the hotel just made it even more fun.
It gave The Shining and Slay the Spire vibes at the same time. 😺💜

Love the demo, can't wait until the full release!

It looks very good, i really liked when boss monster disapeared and then tried to scare us, I had a chuckle. Very good one.

Really enjoyable demo! The interactions between characters and the fact that all character combinations have a team name is awesome! Gets you into the campy horror mood :)

Looking forward to the finished game, would love to play it. Good luck with your work, it's amazing so far!

Thank you so much!

This is awesome! I went and downloaded the Steam demo and I love it! I just wish I could Save & Exit during a run.

Thank you for the comments! Save & Exit is a planned feature for the full game, which will have more floors!

I think you have something here, I like the fact that we actually explore the map and I also really like the manor's music, remind me Isaac's OST ^^

But, still the games need more polishing in my humble opinion, is still has this prototype feeling in the UX

Also small note but I first though the player will have to manage each character's health as what can do a Darkest Dungeon for example, so I got a little surprised when I saw that the all team share the same health bar.

Keep going ! you're on the road of making such a good game, congratulation for the work done so far !

I'm developing my first game on Steam and I was looking for references on both Steam and Itchio, I would like to congratulate you on your work, this page on Itchio is very well done.

Fun game! I hope you release the final game on ios or switch. I think these kind of games are best played portable!

My suggestion: You should allow using minimap for walking. After a few runs, navigating in 3D feels way too slow. Maybe that can be an unlockable option after a player beats the first boss or something.

Hey, thanks for the feedback! Question about the navigating: did you look at the walk speed slider in the Options->Gameplay? We were curious if that helped the navigating feel faster for you.

Second in the line up. A had a fair bit of fun fiddling. A nice straight forward  dungeon crawler with a few curve balls now and then. I have seen mushroom and vampires combine before it made for a unique set of baddies. The game really give me some Betrayal at the House on the Hill vibes. The music felt fitting and slapped.  Looking forward to the full build.

This game was so much fun! I had a blast playing this! Love the art style, love the design of the monsters and characters, and love the exploration of the different levels of the hotel! Almost got the secret event as well! Can't wait to see more from this game!

I can honestly say I had way more fun with this than I expected to. I'm not much of a "card gamer" but this one really had me hooked. I love the character interactions, love the artwork, the music is awesome, and the 3D world to walk around through between rooms adds a pretty fun exploration mechanic. I also loved all the random little secrets that popped up. Definitely wasn't expecting all of them! All in all the demo was great and I can't wait to see more. Keep up the good work!

I had way to much fun with this and its only the demo please please PLEASE keep it up it made my whole day

The game's really fun and I like the idea here. I kinda hoped that you would have put a hidden secret boss in this demo. But other then that, nice job.

Here's my channel for other games I have played. https://www.youtube.com/@Levont

Thank you so much for playing the game on your channel! There is a secret event in the demo. As to a secret boss, we won't say yet...

Had fun playing this game! Music and sound design are amazing and it's not lacking in the graphics department either.
What I value most in deckbuilders is the ability to customize my deck and have each run feel completely different from the last one. That would be my biggest worry at the moment. I have only played a single run but the choices that were available to me felt a bit limited. I understand that this is only the demo and also that some replayability will come from the choice of characters at the start. So maybe I'm concerned over nothing.
Another thing I noticed is that I kept trying to open the map by pressing M, which does not work. Please add M button ;)
Personally I thought the demo was very easy, even the boss barely scratched me. I guess my 100 hours in Slay the Spire are paying off :P
Overall I think the game is awesome and very promising! I wishlisted and wish you the best!

Thank you for the feedback! We're so happy to hear people are enjoying the demo. Regarding difficulty and run variety, this is our main focus in the full game! We are in the process of testing many more cards, gear, events, and other fun surprises to crank up the strategy, and we know that veteran deckbuilder fans like you are hoping for increased challenge :)

Ending is a little difficult, but overall the game is extremely well made and fun especially for a demo. The music was honestly amazing and at the boss battle I took a few seconds to actually do something because I was jamming out so hard lol.

Monster designs are extremely charming, I enjoyed the tidbits of lore we got. This game has a crap ton of potential and I'm extremely excited to see where it's headed.

game super scary

I love this so much, I was a little concerned by the twins at first though.

Pretty fun.  None of the enemies in the demo have any way of handling Briar, but I imagine that will change in the full version.

Very fun, I failed so hard at the end I'm so bad at these games lol but I enjoyed exploring and the overall aesthetic of the game. I hope in the final product it has a co-op option, I'd love to play this with friends. Also would be cool to have some voice acting but its fine if not!
